Where to find us
Gisborne is the most easterly city in the world and is located in the north eastern part of New Zealand’s North Island. Whether you choose to take the quick hour long flight from either Auckland or Wellington, or take the picturesque road trip, getting to Tairāwhiti Gisborne is effortless. Nau mai, haere mai.
Scenic Highlights
From sacred mountains to the shores of the vast Pacific Ocean, Tairāwhiti Gisborne is a stunning and unique corner of Aotearoa made for discovery.
Looking back to the arrival of great Polynesian voyagers, Captain James Cook’s landing and the very first encounter between Māori and European, Tairāwhiti is a significant region steeped in New Zealand culture and history.
As the first place in the world to see the sunrise each day, there’s plenty of time to explore unspoilt beaches and flourishing vineyards, connect with the welcoming people of this land and discover New Zealand in a whole new light. With a calendar of year-round entertainment and experiences to delight you, the land of the first light is a fun-filled destination that offers something for everyone.
Journey along SH35 for an epic road trip or escape to a dreamy day’s outing – there’s a world of fun under the sun to be had in Tairāwhiti.
Conference Venues & Facilities
Gisborne is quickly becoming a convention and event hotspot with its wide range of venues including new purpose-built conference centres, a large capacity event centre, outdoor amphitheatres, boutique wineries and beautiful old buildings. For indoor events, venues can hold up to 1700 people or for a stunning outdoor occasion the region regularly hosts events of up to 25,000 people. Gisborne has a facility to meet every need.
Accommodation
Tairāwhiti boasts a variety of quality accommodation all the way from Ōpōtiki to the city centre of Gisborne including 4 star fully serviced hotels, boutique lodges, farmstays and serviced apartments. There’s something for any type of requirement.
Unforgettable Experiences
Tairāwhiti is home to some truly unique experiences, only found in the East Coast of New Zealand.
Follow the beautiful East Coast from north to south, travel scenic SH35 from Ōpōtiki along winding roads through picturesque towns down to the city hub of Gisborne. Enjoy beautiful beaches, relaxed towns, stunning surf breaks, beautiful hot springs and bush-clad walking tracks. Stargazing, mountain biking and one of New Zealand's favourite waterfalls, these are just some of the inland gems not to be missed.
Exceptional wineries, award-wining ciders and the older independent brewery in New Zealand. The land of the first light is a thirst-quenching region to appease even the most refined taste buds. From golden lagers to exquisite chardonnay, ginger beer and biodynamic wines, there’s a great variety of homegrown beverages to enjoy and experience.
