The Powerful Geothermal valley of Whakarewarewa

Dining beside the Mighty Pohutu Geyser
Picture this, dining underneath the stars, deep in the heart of the Te Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve, with Pohutu geyser illuminated as a natural and spectacular backdrop. The possibilities are limitless, but promise an intimate, inspiring and reverential encounter with this unique environment and with the people and stories of this land. Programs can be tailored to meet your requirements, and include a range of dining and themed options. A Maori welcome ceremony greets you as you make your way to the geyser terrace with Maori warriors performing the infamous ‘haka’ or war dance, followed by a performance of Maori song and dance. An enthralling encounter.

New Zealands largest natural cooking pot – Beer, Bubbles and Mussels
This unique offering includes a unique taste of fresh New Zealand green-shelled mussels poached in a hot mineral pool, along with whole prawns and corn on the cob. Or choose from a selection of indigenous canapés with New Zealand lamb, beef and chicken. Accompanied are relishes, oils and Maori breads infused with traditional herbs and spices with New Zealand beer and sparkling wine.

Te Puia – Rotoura’s premier Maori Cultural Centre
At the core of Te Puia is the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute where artisans have been nurtured and trained in traditional wood carving, weaving and performing arts and shortly the opening of a Jade and Bone carving school will add to live offerings on display to all visitors.
